The majority of textbooks on personnel/human resource management tend to focus on the administrative side of the subject and fail to examine its strategic importance. "Strategic Human Resource Management" is intended to redress the balance and, taking strategy as a starting point, it looks at the overall role of HRM in the organization. In particular, the author examines the contribution strategic HRM can make to a company's competitiveness and how it can respond effectively to change. Chris Hendry is a Senior Research Fellow at the Centre for Corporate Strategy and Change, University of Warwick. He has written many articles and papers on the theme of strategic HRM, and has contributed to "The State of the Nation's Managers" and "Frontiers of Management".
