Environmental Geography

by Jack Gillett

Published December 1990
This is one in a series of three books, for students studying for their GCSE examinations. Each of the books is based on one major syllabus area of the GYSL/Avery Hill syllabus and covers both core and related option modules. The books contain a variety of textual information and stimulus material and also present case studies, accompanied by a world map showing the location of each of these studies. Each book has two role-play exercises to provide open-ended work, graded questions and revision and test sections to provide students with the explanations and resource material they need to understand fundamental concepts and make reasoned judgements on current issues. Suggestions for the required fieldwork topics and Ordnance Survey map extracts at a variety of scales are also included. The books are aimed principally at MEG/Welsh Board Avery Hill GCSE syllabuses and are also suitable for Avery Hill derivatives.

"Urban and Rural Geography" is a title in a three book series that meets the requirements of the National Criteria and GCSE syllabuses, in particular the GYSL/Avery Hill based options (each book is based on one major GYSL/Avery Hill syllabus area). All three books are self-contained and provide students with explanations and resource material to enable them to understand fundamental concepts and make reasoned judgements about current issues. They are designed for pupils of average ability and above and contain diagrams, maps, photographs, suggestions for fieldwork, graded questions, case studies, planning enquiry role-play exercises and revision-test sections. This volume, principally aimed at MEG/Welsh Avery Hill GCSE syllabuses but also suitable for LEAG syllabus B and NEA Syllabus C, examines urban and rural Geography in Britain and other countries. It looks at such topics as the process of urbanization, shopping facilities, transport networks and issues concerning the quality of life. Jack Gillett's books include "Fieldwork Studies in Geography".
