Two volumes publishing John Garstang's excavations (1909-1914) at Meroe, the capital of the ancient kingdom of Kush in central Sudan. Volume 1, divided in seven parts, describes the excavations, the settlement site, archaeological evidence, textual finds, unprovenanced finds, the mortuary complex, and pottery. Volume 2 provides maps of the site, detailed line drawings of the finds, and nearly 250 photographic images.
