James McCosh (1811-1894) was the last major representative of the Scottish "Common Sense" school of philosophy. His autobiography gives an account of his life and intellectual development at Glasgow and Aberdeen universities, before becoming Professor at Queen's College, Belfast. His account of his Princeton years (he became President of the College of New Jersey in 1868) gives many valuable insights into the early years of that institution. Also included is an extensive bibliography by Joseph H. Dulles.
