Small Area Estimation (SAE) is the process of obtaining estimates for a set of specific small (typically geographical) areas with limited data on the variable of interest at this level. The book combines the background theory of SAE techniques with their implementation using R and Spatial and Spatio-Temporal Task Views.
Small Area Estimation: An Introduction with R sets itself apart from the competition by addressing the problem of producing the estimates in practice from data and using appropriate software. This book also considers robustness issues in the majority of chapters, as well as calibration methods and statistical matching methods. Several case studies feature throughout the book as well as R code, datasets and tutorials in R on a supporting website.
