This series of books provides ready-made ideas for developing all the essential skills within the Early Learning Goals. Each book takes one particular skill and includes double-page spreads of activity ideas. The left-hand page provides a practical group activity using resources typically found in any nursery setting. This is supported with a photocopiable activity on the right-hand page which consolidates the learning and provides an assessment record of each child's individual achievement. The final page contains a photocopiable Skills Development Chart to place in each child's personal portfolio. SOCIAL SKILLS will help young children to develop personal, social and emotional skills in all aspects of their lives. Through interactive ideas the children will learn to become valuable members of a group, will make relationships and develop confidence in group situations. Skills such as turn taking are dealt with again and again in order to encourage success. Activities include shariing out items for a picnic, taking turns in board games, finding our what makes their friends happy and speaking with confidence in a group activity.;

Constructing and Making

Each book takes one particular skill and includes double-page spreads of activity ideas. The left hand page provides a practical group activity using resources typically found in any nursery setting. This is supported with a photocopiable activity on the right-hand page which consolidates the learning and provides an assessment record of each child's individual acheivement. The final page contains a photocopiable Skills Development Chart to place in each child's personal portfolio. CONSTRUCTING AND MAKING introduces a range of activities that will help to develop handwork skills with young children. Each activity concentrates on a new skill such as using scissors, folding, glueing and assembling materials. The ideas involve using a variety of tools and encourage children to make their own choices. The activities include cutting stripes for a zebra, folding paper to create a snowflake and threading beads to make animal puppets.
