This essay explores the ideas of statesman John Maynard Keynes, describing how he formulated a new system of political economy, as different and inspiring as the political economies of Adam Smith or Karl Marx. Keynes based politics and economics on traditional Greek concepts, but his unique system was misunderstood. Athol Fitzgibbons goes back to Keynes' early philosophical works, which have remained neglected or unpublished, and reveals the vision behind them. By tracing it through Keynes' collected writings, he draws out an unsuspected theme running through all Keynes' major works.
