The "Nelson Music" scheme offers an easy-to-follow programme for primary music, and demonstrates that you don't have to play a musical instrument or read music to be an effective music teacher. Each stage comprises a teacher's book containing six progressive units of work with corresponding colour-coded cassettes. A unit of work contains enough work for approximately one term. This teacher's book 1 contains lessons which provide tried-and-tested activities that are easy to organize and fun to do. Each unit focuses on understanding an element of music, and links it to the development of appropriate skills. Each unit begins with a series of short confidence-building activities, and then consolidates this learning in larger pieces of work. Features of the scheme include: clear explanations of musical terminology; practical tips on managing lessons; extensive links to other curricular areas; uncomplicated guidelines for assessment; a full range of audio resources; incorporates all the requirements of the revised National Curriculum for Music; and is correlated to the 5-14 Guidelines, the National Curriculum for England and Wales, and the Northern Ireland Curriculums.
