A Holistic Approach to Measuring the Security of SCADA Systems
by Carlos Queiroz
Published 18 August 2017
Describes how Supervisory Control and Data Acquisitions (SCADA) systems work and defines a new paradigm that assesses security and provides solutions through predictive modelling. This book evaluates the rapid development in hacking Supervisory Control and Data Acquisitions (SCADA) systems. It provides new preventative models and metrics for the security of SCADA systems, which will best serve industry professionals such as assessment practitioners and SCADA security engineers. The first chapter introduces the problem statement and provides an overview of future cyber-attacks. The second chapter acts as both an introduction to SCADA systems and a preface for the following chapters. The third and fourth cover techniques and models proposed to assess security of SCADA systems. The fifth chapter introduces metrics and how they contribute to analyzing the security of SCADA systems. The sixth, and last, chapter of the book provides three case studies targeting different SCADA systems in order to understand how the techniques, models, and metrics are applied.
Includes a comprehensive overview of what Supervisory and Data Acquisitions (SCADA) systems are and examples of how their security will be tested in years to come Presents techniques for using real data from SCADA systems to asses security in real time Introduces new topics in SCADA security, proposed models of security assessment, and case studies applying the proposed, holistic models Discusses survivability, and employs analyses based on Bayesian and Markov networks A Holistic Approach for Measuring the Security of SCADA Systems is a resource for Security assessment practitioners, administrators, and engineers. Carlos Queiroz is currently a senior field engineer at GoPivotal Singapore Pte, Ltd, Singapore. He received his PhD at RMIT University, Australia. During his candidature, he actively studied at applying survivability and predictive analytics in order to enhance the security of SCADA systems. He has papers published about SCADA and SCADA Security journals and conferences, including IEEE Transactions on Industrial Informatics, including IEEE Transactions on Smart Grid, IBM Journal of Research and Development.
