Explains the principles of performance review in the local government context and presents the current state of art in this field. The book contains empirical work carried out as part of a recent ESRC funded project into performance review in British local government. It covers issues related to the wide variety of performance review systems developed by local government and highlights lessons for good practice for managers. This work should be of particular interest to postgraduate students taking public sector options on MBA's and other postgraduate management programmes, and in local government and among students of public administration.
