John Dwight's Fulham Pottery

by Chris Green

Published 23 August 1999
John Dwight (c.1633-1703), the first English master potter of personal fame, established a pottery in Fulham in the 1670s, and it continued in production until the 1970s. Excavation of the site has provided a wealth of material from the early years of the pottery, showing how innovative Dwight was. Stoneware was the staple product from the beginning, though changes to the kilns in the 18th century and the workshops in the 19th century demonstrate changes keeping up with time. The report illustrates the huge range of products, especially varied from the early yearsof the pottery. An extremely interesting report at a very reasonable price.
