Written in 1813, this is one of the earliest regional and social novels. In it Galt realized his ambition "to write a book that would be for Scotland what The Vicar of Wakefield is for England." The text is based on the 1821 edition collated with the revision of 1822.
This masterpiece, "The Provost" by Galt consists of the historical views. Various important and interesting scenes and affairs are narrated in which the Provost had been personally engaged during his long magisterial life. Along with some important notes this is truly informative and engrossing!
