This work looks at recurrences of Romantic patterns of thinking in contemporary theory. Each chapter moves through a special aspect of Romantic theory it studies - symbol, the sublime, irony, reflexivity, originality and ideology, and materialism - to consider both its postmodern accommodation and the possibilities of contemporary resistance to it.
