This text is designed to support the six activity books in the "Learning in the Early Years" series, by providing guidance on the policy and management issues that groups will need to tackle in order to pass an inspection. It includes information on: how to prepare for an inspection; planning the curriculum and environment; the Desirable Outcomes; putting together policies for equal opportunities and special needs; monitoring quality; staffing; resources; assessment and record keeping; and working with parents and other providers. Also included at the end of the book is a selection of photocopiable sheets, providing models for such items as a parents' newsletter, an action plan grid and a staff development record.
