Key Stage 3 Science Support Pack
by Alan V. Jones, Roy Purnell, Mike Clemmet, and Colin Hughes
Published 2 November 1998
This is the second of two packs of photocopiable material aimed at pupils of KS3 Science who are at either end of the learning spectrum. This particular pack is aimed at the pupils at the upper levels who have reached Level 6 or above. The pack contains 94 worksheets, divided into three sections to correspond with the areas covered by KS3 Science: Life Processes and Living Things, Materials and Their Properties, and Physical Processes. The worksheets aim to push the more able pupils up to a higher attainment level by applying familiar topics to a wider context and including new approaches to the material. Each sheet contains a number of questions to enable the teacher to gauge the level of understanding reached. Many of the sheets contain extended questions which will encourage pupils to think more deeply about the topic or carry out some further research. Opportunities for pupils to use computers to help them with their work are provided throughout. The Teacher's Notes at the beginning of the pack include answers to all the short questions featured on the activity sheets. This section also features a table detailing the area of the National Curriculum covered by each sheet.
As packs are photocopiable, they provide homework tasks or classroom exercises to consolidate the topics covered in mainstream science lessons.
