An up-to-date review of current techniques used for recording from single neurons in the CNS of conscious animals, combining a theoretical treatment of the basic problems encountered and technical solutions to these problems. Detailed attention is given to current techniques for surgical implantation of devices for recording and stimulation, and to post-operative care of these animals.
