Rigdon Sadar has carried the burden of it all his life: For forty-five years it has been widely believed that his grandfather, Sam Rigdon, stole twenty-seven sacks of high-grade ore from a mine in Sylvanite. After the theft Sam had gone to Alaska and struck it rich, a move most thought he used to cover his sudden wealth. Now Sadar has seven days to find the cache before he must leave Sylvanite, now a tourist resort. His only leads are the old-timers who actually worked the mines, and most of them are reluctant to talk. Then someone tries to kill him . . .
