Urban Policy in Britain

by Rob Atkinson and Graham Moon

Published 8 March 1994
Government attempts to regenerate Britain's cities have taken a variety of overt and covert forms since 1945. This comprehensive and clearly written text provides a theoretical framework within which to understand urban policy and assesses the evolution of Conservative approaches to the revitalisation of urban areas under Thatcher and Major. Key legislation is reviewed and major consideration is given to the impact on urban policy of New Right principles, such as reliance on 'the market'.
