The Theory of Assessment

by Julie Cotton

Published 30 September 1995
A whole range of assessment and evaluation models and techniques exist and are used for different purposes in different contexts. Both assessment and evaluation are made against a standard. In traditional assessment, the standard is other people in the same "population"; in competency-based testing, the standards and statistics have to be reliable and valid to avoid wild variations in the results within the system. This book provides guidance for all assessors on the different theories and models of assessment and to which contexts each is appropriate.
