Painted Furniture Patterns
4 total works
The motifs in this series all combine delightful traditional patterns with distinctive colour and are based on authentic historical and regional sources. The concept behind the designs is a simple trace-down approach - motifs are transferred from the printed paper patterns onto any painted surface by means of re-usable transfer paper, then coloured in following step-by-step instructions, covering everything from colour mixing to painting in traced patterns. Each booklet contains, as well as a central motif, related motifs for borders, corner pieces and small details, creating an array of decorative possibilities. Colour photographs illustrate the wide range of decorative objects, from kitchen cupboards to soap boxes, on which the motifs can be used. Scandinavia has a rich history of decorative painting on softwood furniture. The vivid patterns in "Simply Scandinavian" draw on the traditional motifs used for centuries in wooden country homes and are interpreted in the earthy colours appropriate to the genre - blue-green, red and cream.

The "Simply French" patterns are based on the spring-like colours and designs of old Breton pottery. They include a rich floral centrepiece in a slightly naive style, counterpointed by delicate posies, sprays and corner pieces, allowing painters to add a splash of distinctive French blue and yellow to anything from a towel rail to an armoire.
Part of the "Paintability" series, this title contains the complete kit one needs - detailed step-by-step colour photography and instructions, detachable full-size patterns and reusable transfer paper - to give a dull, old room a lasting and beautiful personal look. The range of motifs in the four titles offers sources of inspiration for the broadest range of tastes in interior decoration, from the rich sophistication of the "Classic Collection", through the bold and opulent "Sun, Moon & Stars" to the pretty, carefree "Ribbons & Bows" and the charming, country appeal of "English Rose". The basic principle is as simple as painting by numbers, but the results will give even beginners a professional finish.
