Book 4

This is the second volume of "English Manuscripts Studies", a new annual periodical which reflects the growth of scholarly interest in manuscript sources for literature and intellectual history from medieval to early modern times. Encompassing the study of manuscripts produced in the British Isles between the Norman Couquest and the end of the seventeenth century, it provides a forum for interdisciplinary investigation of both medieval and Renaissance manuscripts and aims to stimulate awareness of the possibilities of manuscript study in general. The periodical will encourage wider exploration of scribal practices and of all aspects of textual transmission in manuscript, as well as offering scope for detailed examination of authors' holographs. It will seek particularly to focus attention on the widespread manuscript culture that continued to flourish in Britain until some two and half centuries after the invention of printing.
