Bowen's fascination with the themes of myth and manipulation is given scope in these six short pieces. Silver Wedding was first performed at the Comedy Theatre in 1969 with Andre Melly and Oscar Quitak and was later televised by the BBC. Which Way are you Facing? was commissioned by Peter Hall for the opening of the National Theatre in its new building in 1976. Young Guy Seeks Part-Time Work was performed at the Action Space in 1978 as part of a season of gay plays, with Michael Browning directing.
Includes the plays Little Boxes, The Disorderly Women and Singles. John Bowen's plays, like his novels, are preoccupied with myth, manipulation and self-deceit. Bowen's first major success as a playwright was with the epic and unconventional stage version of his novel, After the Rain, in 1966.
