This text addresses a growing policy and practice concern in the Probation Service's work with offenders, both within the community and with those approaching release from custody. The Criminal Justice Act of 1997 and public and governmental concerns with offender risks to public safety have made this a key area for probation managers and practitioners. The Probation Service is dealing with higher risk offenders in the community and is aware of practice and policy deficiencies in this area of its work. The book addresses the issues of policy formulation, implementation and practice guidance in the area of offender risk assessment and risk management in the community.
