This pack is aims to help with the development of an additional study unit to meet the syllabus requirement, "A Non-European Society", within the National Curriculum Key Stage 2. The pack is designed to support and expand on the "I Was There" history series. Each one has been prepared by a working teacher and tested in the classroom. They offer the teacher opportunities to stimulate investigative learning both individually and in groups and to develop "flexible" teaching styles, and they encourage pupils to use a variety of methods to present their work. Each pack includes photocopiable material and contains: ten specially selected photographs from an "I Was There" book reproduced on laminated A4 cards, on the reverse of which are appropriate written and picture sources. Both sides are in full colour; ten investigation cards with questions based on the photograph and sources; mark-scheme; map and blank map for classroom work; time-line which sets the period being studied chronologically within world history; assessment grid; teacher's guide including ideas for teaching, assessment, cross-curricular possibilities and the use of information technology.
Part of the "I Was There" series which brings history to life by using computer paintbox technology. The sights, smells and practicalities of various periods of history are made real and the reportage text gives a new sense of immediacy to historical experience.
