It considers the suffering and resistance of the slaves themselves through first-hand accounts. Finally, it describes how slavery was abolished and looks at the shadow it has cast down to the present day.
The book opens with a dramatic recount of the Omagh bomb attack. The following chapters will then relate the history of the conflict, from its earliest seeds in the 17th century to the present day. The book focuses particularly on the last 30 years, with a large section charting the moves towards peace and devolution since 1994.
