This addition to the "Inspirations" series covers the curriculum requirements of speaking and listening. Chapters are organized by kinds of talk including reporters, instructors, storytellers, discussions, interviews, talking about the past, talking mathematics, imaginary worlds, recording and assessing progress, and is intended to be used by teachers of 5- to 11-year old children. A teaching guide is also included.

Offers practical suggestions to teachers of five to eleven year olds for teaching the five cross-curricular themes that schools are required to cover within the National Curriculum. These are economic and industrial awareness, citizenship, environmental education, careers education and guidance and health education. It gives background information on the key ideas to be developed, with examples of ways in which children learn in these areas, activities which also highlight the core and foundation subjects that are relevant and project plans that develop the theme into a major project with detailed links to the core.
