Competence-Based Education (CBE) and National Vocational Qualifications (NVQs) have grown in importance in the UK. In this book, the author offers a critical, dissenting account of competence-based education in general, and NVQs in particular. He examines their drawbacks, and the implications for general and vocational education and training, and continuing professional education. He challenges recent government policy and suggests viable alternatives for the future.
