"Friendships Between Women" reviews the issues and themes which indicate the importance and also the limitations of such relationships. Drawing on a range of intellectual traditions - including mainstream sociology, the newly developed area of personal relationships, feminism and social psychology - Pat O'Connor explores the meaning and significance of friendship to women at different stages in their lives, and suggests an agenda for future research. Throughout, the book highlights the importance of looking at the processes operating within friendships, while at the same time challenging the assumption that friendships are privatized relationships.
