Book 8

Book 16

Assessing the twentieth century, the contributors to this collection of essays comment on achievements of the last one hundred years in American musical life and speculate on its future. From the vantage points of diverse musicalbackgrounds, goals, disciplines, and occupations, the authors communicate significant developments in their own professional lives as well as in the evolution of their particular professions. Conceived as a means of marking the millennium by the College Music Society, the volume is likewise intended to call attention to the activities of the leaders and members of that umbrella organization since its establishment in 1958.
