Whilst there has been a new "sexual revolution" in the Eighties and Nineties, with books, videos and newspaper articles counselling "how to do it", many people remain inhibited by sex and find such explicit material embarrassing. This book helps the reader to come to terms with the fear of sex, by concentrating on the emotional and psychological dimensions of sexuality. Chapter one looks at the origins of sexuality, and the various sexual identities that have been created for men and women. Chapter two tells how emotions get blocked, resulting in embarrassment and shyness. Chapter three looks at fear specifically in relation to sexuality - our search for intimacy and fear of isolation, our fear of approaching others and being approached. Chapter four is about rage - repressed fear. It finds its sources in childhood, and its manifestation in deliberately choosing wrong partners. Chapter five is about self-doubt - the undermining of one's self image. Chapter six affirms the naturalness of sexuality, and its place in the social mechanics of our society.
