Economics in a Changing World
Published 1 January 1994
This is the fourth volume of papers from the tenth World Economic Congress held in Moscow in 1992 under the auspices of the International Economic Association. It considers various aspects of economic policy and development, and issues in developing countries of domestic economic management and policy reform, under conditions of increased economic openness. Part 1 deals with trade theory and multinational firms, environmental policy interdependence, the coping strategies of the rural poor and the policy implications of open economy macroeconomics. Parts 2 and 3 deal with specific regional issues in the developing world. Part 2 is concerned with aspects of international economic interdependence and the response to structural adjustment and economic constraints. Overviews of current macroeconomic issues in Latin America and Africa are complemented by particular analyses of Bolivia and South Africa. Lastly, in Part 3, four case studies deal broadly with the impact of domestic economic reforms on growth prospects: the countries range widely to include Senegal; India; China and the 18 countries of the Mediterranean basin.
