Strength of Materials

Published 1 January 1961
This work sets out to cover all the work required up to final degree standard in strength of materials - the study of the behaviour of structural and machine members under the action of external loads. The only prior knowledge assumed is of elementary applied mechanics and calculus. The author's main aim is to provide a clear understanding of the principles underlying engineering design, and a special effort has been made to indicate the shortest analysis of a wide variety of problems. A summary of formulae, methods and underlying principles is given at the end of each chapter, together with worked examples and examination-type problems.
