Liszt's songs represent a very fine but rather neglected area of his prolific output, and his ability to set a variety of languages with felicity makes him unique in the history of the art-song. The present volume, updated and corrected from its 1975 edition, presents 21 of Liszt's songs, mostly from his later life in settings of German, French, Italian, English and Hungarian texts.
Book 7
This collection of sixteen of Liszt's piano pieces, mostly of moderate difficulty, was first published in 1978. Now, with a new edition, we have taken the opportunity to revise the whole collection with reference to the best manuscript and published sources, providing an accurate text of these rare and delightful pieces.

Grosses Konzertstuck and Concerto Pathetique for Two Pianofortes

Liszt wrote little original music for two pianos, although he made a large body of arrangements, usually of orchestral pieces or works for piano or orchestra. His two important original works: the "Grosses Konzertstuck uber Themen aus Mendelssohns 'Lieder ohne Worte'" and the "Concerto pathetique" are issued together in this volume. The inventive and entertaining "Grand Concert-piece" on three of Mendelssohn's opus 19 "Songs without Words" is, extraordinarily, published here for the first time, and the authentic texts of both editions - neither available for more than a century - of the powerful "Concerto pathetique" are here printed in tandem for the first time.

The Complete Music for Pianoforte, Violin and Violoncello

Liszt wrote no piano trios in the conventional sense of the form, but in "Le carnaval de Pest" and "Tristia - La vallee d'Obermann" he wrote two excellent pieces for the combination of piano, violin and cello which would leaven many a recital programme. To complete the picture his symphonic poem "Orphee" is offered in a version by Saint-Saens, personally sanctioned by Liszt. "Tristia - La vallee d'Obermann" is published here (in three versions) for the first itme, while the "Le carnaval de Pest" and "Orphee" are here printed for the first time in more than a century.
