This is one of a series of books in which children visit locations, in this case a reconstructed Viking street, and, using evidence they find, recreate the everyday life of the people who lived in these places during their heyday. The books include a time-line describing the important events of the period and showing how the location itself changed over time to the present day. In specially commissioned photographs children are shown exploring the locations, handling artefacts and experimenting with reconstruction using such things as clothes and cooking utensils. In this book they discover evidence that shows them what the Vikings ate and wore, what the inside of a Viking house looked like and what was sold in Viking shops.
Through the use of artefacts and documents at the Winston Churchill Britain at War Museum in London, this book builds a picture of what life was like for Londoners during the Second World War with rationing, gas masks, air raid shelters and the black out"."
