Plays

by Bertolt Brecht

Published December 1960
The latest in the series presenting translations of Brecht's most popular and frequently performed plays, This volume includes two plays from the 1940s, "Schweyk in the Second World War", which transposes Hasek's "Good Soldier" to the Prague of Hitler and Heydrich, and "Mr Puntila and his Man Matti", with a collection of "Lehrstucke", the short didactic plays written in the period around 1930.

A collection of 171 lyrics, representing most of the songs and poems in the English versions of Brecht's plays. As well as the lyrics written to the musical settings of Weill, Eisler and Dessau, the book contains many less well-known pieces, displaying the full range of Brecht's poetic talent.
