In 1951, Edmund Wilson, one of America's finest literary critics, inherited his mother's old stone house in Talcottville, New York. For the next twenty years Wilson would spend all his summers at the upstate manor, reading, writing, meeting friends, and making trips through northern New York. Those twenty years are reflected in "Upstate", Wilson's twenty-fourth book and the last to be published during his lifetime.
