Children learn with the help of Phoneme Fred, a little alien character who can only speak using separate sounds. Parent and child follow five simple steps: Find the rhyming words, Find the sounds, Blend the sounds, Split the word into sounds, Read the word. Superphonics Spelling

This book introduces the simplest spelling for each sound (e.g. ee as in keep), then looks at alternative spellings for the sounds (e.g. ea as in bead), followed by root words and word endings, and more difficult spellings. There is a Useful Words unit at the back of the book which focuses on groups of words which are frequently needed but difficult to spell. Lively illustrated in full colour.
