The Golden Dawn Journal

Published October 1994
This volume reflects the magical teachings and philosophy of the Hermetic Tradition, upon which all Western occultism since the Middle Ages is based. The book explores the techniques used in ceremonial magick and includes ritual advice for the working magician. Hermes Trismegistus is the god of wisdom of the Graeco-Egyptian philosophers who lived in Egypt in the early centuries of the Christian era. He is linked with alchemy, medicine, magic and the mysteries. All secret school and orders in the West that claim an occult tradition (such as Freemasonry) may be loosely linked with Hermes. The editors trace the course of the Hermetic tradition from ancient Egypt, through Greek philosophy and the Greek Mystery religions, Gnosticism, Neoplatonism and the Kabbalah, down to the modern occult revival and the Golden Dawn.
