In the pre-dawn hours of February 3 1959, just five years after Rock and Roll first exploded on the scene, three of its brightest lights were extinguished. The electrifying, seventeen year old performer Ritchie Valens, the outrageous, leopard-print jacketed Big Bopper and headliner Buddy Holly, the brilliant rock and roll innovator, all died in a small plane crash. Though they were silenced forever, their music is immortal.
