The Secrets of Hadley Green
4 primary works
Book 1
In 1792, the village of Hadley Green executed a man for stealing the Countess of Ashwood's historic jewels. Fifteen years later, questions still linger ... When Declan O'Connor, Earl of Donnelly, arrives at Hadley Green to meet with the new countess of Ashwood, he knows instantly that the woman who welcomes him is not who she pretends to be. To avoid an unwanted marriage, Keira Hannigan has assumed her cousin's identity while she's abroad. Convincing Declan to guard her secret, she enlists him in her investigation of the missing jewels.
Book 2
Tobin Scott, Count Eberlin of Denmark, has returned to Hadley Green, the site of his father's hanging fifteen years ago. He has one goal in mind and that is to avenge his father. He is now a wealthy man and intends to exact his revenge by destroying the Ashwood estate and the Countess of Ashwood, who, as a girl, testified against his father. Lily Boudine has become the Countess of Ashwood through a very surprising twist of fate. She is surprised when a vaguely familiar looking man calls and tells her he is Tobin Scott, whom she knew as a boy and that he intends to destroy her or Ashwood. He leaves the choice to her. Lily chooses herself, and banks on the idea that she can hold him at bay long enough to remove Ashwood from his clutches. However as they play the game of seduction, Lily slowly discovers that he is not the cold, heartless man he would like to present to her, she also comes to believe that Tobin is right-his father did not steal the jewels, and if she can find them, she can help restore his family's honour.
Book 3
When Harrison Tolly learns that he is the rightful heir of Ashwood and may petition to be its Earl, he has a huge dilemma to face and harbours a dark secret. The young woman he is married to is not really his wife, but the sister of Lady Carew, who had been impregnated by her sister's husband, Lord Carew. Harrison Tolly has agreed to pretend she is his wife because he is secretly in love with Lady Carew. The sort of scrutiny that would follow the discovery that he is now suddenly an earl would ruin the countess.
Olivia Jameson, Lady Carew, is unaware of Harrison's devotion to her. She does not know that he is the one who has begun to secretly woo her with small, discreet gifts and messages. She does not know that when she writes letters to this Scarlet Pimpernel, (and signs them Lady X), that she is falling in love with him. When her husband is killed in a senseless accident, her scarlet pimpernel becomes bolder, coming to her room in the middle of the night.
