When Tim knocks himself out playing football he is taken to hospital for observation. He feels physically fine, but something very strange seems to have happened to him, he notices that he can hear other people's thoughts in his own mind. Some thoughts are funny, some are frightening.

Charlie has gone to stay with his aunt by the sea. He has looked forward to the visit, and it'll be even better with his friend Tim going as well. Then Charlie finds objects on the beach that rot away between his fingers into an evil-smelling dust. Something begins to emerge from the ground.

Jack and his sister Sue can hardly wait to get down to Danton's Dark Carnival when it arrives. They eventually end up in the Shape Shifter where they gaze at their distorted images for some time, until Jack finds a mirror where there is no distortion. Inexplicable things begin to happen to Jack.
