There has been considerable interest in recent years in developing course and associated course texts which emphasize mathematical modelling as a powerful and unifying approach to the wide range of applications of mathematics. The contents of this book attempt to develop material for use in a models course within the framework of a relatively confined non-mathematical knowledge base. The material relates to modelling questions which are seen to be of current practical interest. The aim of the authors is to introduce mathematical techniques which are efficient, practical and frequently used.
