Introduction to Programming introduces the design and implementation of programs with emphasis on general principles and practical programming skills. Simple algorithms are used to illustrate techniques of structured programming and the text progresses to the treatment of more advanced techniques as used by professional programmers. Throughout the book both Pascal and COBOL are used as appropriate for specific examples. No previous programming or computing knowledge is assumed and the reader's practical skills in all areas of program design and implementation are developed by the use of exercises based on examples in the text.
