This series follows in the tradition of Chelsea House's African-American Achievers series in spotlighting various groups and organizations, and examining their historical and social impact. African-Americans serving in the armed forces had faced many struggles for acceptance and recognition ever since the Revolutionary War. But little could match the obstacles--or the rewards--of the Tuskegee Airmen, the first African-American men to achieve their dream of becoming pilots and fighters for their country.
