The Irish

by Francis John Byrne and Michael Herity

Published 15 June 1989
This study examines the impact of successive invasions upon the emergence of a distinctive Irish culture and people. In doing so, the authors consider: the Irish language and literature; kingship and law; art and architecture; and religion and society. The history of Ireland can be seen as one of successive invasions and conquests - by the Romans, Vikings, Normans, Picts, English, arguably even by the Christians.
