Michael Eigen draws on autobiographical material, clinical case studies and literary and biblical sources to explore the experience and meaning of ecstatic states. His knowledge of clinical theory and practice is present in discourses on themes of psychic deadness, fragmentation and dissociation. This is joined with a deep engagement with spiritual traditions and personal experiences of spirituality.
