This study, part of a series on education, seeks to provide a basis for the restoration of informed discussion and decision-making in education. Written from an historical perspective, it takes an objective viewpoint, taking seven different topics for investigation, including access to education, curriculum, standards and assessment, teaching quality, the control of education, education and economic performance, and consumers of education. The chapters are then linked in a series of overviews.
