Back in Dodge, Clint Winslowe had, in self-defence, gunned down a couple of gunhawks who had bushwhacked him. Framed by a crooked sheriff, he had been brought to trial and sentenced to hang for murder. Escaping from jail, he fled to the hills with lawmen of half-a-dozen states after him. But others were interested in Winslowe as well. The two men he had killed had been members of the notorious Carswell Gang and their deaths had foiled one of the biggest stage robberies ever planned in the state. With every hand turned against him, Winslowe must prove his innocence by finding the one witness who could have cleared his name at the trial. But why had she been willing for an innocent man to die?
