This is the first book in English exclusively devoted to the startlingly original work of Imre Makovecz, Hungary's most highly acclaimed architect. A household name in his native country for many years, Makovecz first gained international recognition with his extraordinary pavilion at the Seville Expo of 1992. The architectural press not only hailed his organic and highly idiosyncratic architecture, but also recognised it as containing an authenticity and spirituality lacking in much contemporary design. The author emphasises the universality of Makovecz's work, by illustrating selection of his buildings, each accompanied by further descriptions and explanations. A biography and chronology also combine to give a full account of Makovecz's career. Many of the photographs and original drawings in this monograph offer a unique opportunity to see previously unpublished material.
