Campus Activities Foster Community 48

Published 1 December 1989
Each college or university has its own character, traditions, legAnds, standards of behavior, and recreational and ceremonial programs. These attributes of student culture give rise to peer groups and the resulting peer shaping and supports. Peer groups are heavily molded by where students live, whether in the halls or in the broader community off campus. The fulfillment of the mission of student personnel work, namely, the building of community, can only be achieved when student personnel share and disseminate their work. As shown in this volume of new directions for Student Services, the most successful educational and developmental environments will be those that infuse all campus staff with the goals and purposes of student personnel. This is the 48th issue of New Directions for Student Services. For more information on the series, please see the Journals and Periodicals page.
